02What the RCI-1550 Does
The Robway RCI-1550 Rated Capacity Indicator monitors boom angle, length/radius, slew and hook load in real time, comparing the live reading against the crane's stored load chart for the current configuration. It is fitted to assist the operator — it is not a substitute for operator judgement, experience or safe crane operation.
Monitors boom length, boom angle, tip radius, tip height and lifted load on up to 4 winches (Main / Aux / Whip on the 37-DE).
Displays S.W.L. and S.W.L.-as-a-percentage for the current configuration, duty and falls selected.
Provides visual + audible warnings, motion-cut, and anti-two-block (A.T.B.) detection.
Self-diagnoses sensor and wiring faults and reports them as numbered error codes.
Built-in calibration and fault-finding tools, accessed through the keypad's Function (F-) codes.
Scope note — This dashboard combines the Clyde Iron Works 37-DE nameplate data (uploaded spec sheet) with the Robway RCI-1550 system manuals provided (SO 82836 — dynamometer/telescopic configuration; SO 99984 — tension-based twin-winch configuration). Both describe the same RCI-1550 console, keypad, LED logic and F-code structure, which is what's reproduced here. Neither manual is written specifically for the 37-DE's own RCI configuration sheet (chip/function-code list) — confirm exact F-code values and installed options against that unit's own configuration sheet or your Robway distributor before relying on this for calibration.
02RCI-1550 Display & Keypad — Reference Layout
This is a labelled replica of the operator console layout described in the manual, not a live feed. Tap any LED, key or readout to see what it means and what to check.
SWL BAR GRAPH — green to 50%, amber from 85%, red from 100%

AIAI Troubleshooting Assistant
Describe the symptom in your own words. The assistant checks it against the manual reference material loaded in this dashboard first — load cell/angle/length specs, documented error codes, LED logic, digital I/O, override/rigging rules, function codes, maintenance points. If something genuinely isn't covered in that material, it will reason it out separately and label that part clearly as AI analysis, not manual content.
AI-generated, not a substitute for the printed manual or a qualified technician. Verify any safety-critical step yourself before acting on it, and never use this to justify overriding a genuine overload/limit condition.
03How Errors Are Reported
When the RCI-1550 detects a fault, the lower LCD area shows an error code and short description automatically — whenever no other menu is active. Pressing ACK silences the buzzer and hides the message for a configurable timeout (the Audible Alarm Disabled LED confirms this); pressing ACK again re-displays the original error. New error conditions, or the timeout expiring, will re-trigger the alarm.
Documented example codes
101
Angle Sensor 1 — fault on the boom angle sensor input
202
Load Sensor 2 — fault on the Aux load-cell / tensiometer input
301
Angle out of allowed range — boom angle reading outside the calibrated working range
These three are the only specific codes the manual shows as an example display — there's no complete code table printed in it. The numbering pattern (1xx = angle, 2xx = load, 3xx = range/limit) is consistent with the system's sensor groups, but for a full code list confirm with your Robway distributor or the unit's own configuration documentation.
04Sensor Signal Checker
Before calibrating, verify each sensor's raw signal is reaching the RCI-1550 cleanly. View the uncalibrated count for a channel (function code menu) — it should read 0–1023 from the 10-bit ADC, move smoothly, and sit comfortably inside the working range below.
If the number jumps around by more than ±10 counts while the sensor is still, suspect a loose or noisy connection.
A reading under 32 suggests a short circuit on that channel — check for crushed cable or moisture in plugs.
A reading over ~1000 suggests an open circuit — check for a disconnected lead.
05Sensor Resistance / Voltage Reference
Expected values measured at the sensor connector, per the electrical specification section of the manual.

Angle & Length Sensors
Oil-dampened angle (excitation pair)
1 kΩ or 5 kΩ
Oil-dampened angle (signal–excitation)
0 – 1 kΩ / 0 – 5 kΩ (varies with angle)
Length sensor (excitation pair)

Length sensor (signal–excitation)
0 – 500 Ω (varies with length)

High Ω / open circuit
Excitation Voltage Levels

If a measured load-cell resistance is far off these values — open circuit, dead short, or wildly different ratios between pairs — suspect a damaged cell or cut/crushed cable rather than re-calibrating; calibration cannot fix a wiring fault.
06Override / Disable — Field Decision Guide
Crane hitting a limit (overload, max radius, min angle, line-pull) → this is the system working correctly. Do not override; reduce radius/load or correct the configuration instead.
Genuinely need to bypass for rigging/lay-down → use the dedicated Rigging key, not the Override switch — it auto-cancels itself once the boom is raised past 10° or after the temporary window expires.
RCI-1550 hardware has actually failed (display dead, processor unresponsive) → the Disable key-switch is the correct tool, held by the site supervisor, to keep working safely until the unit is serviced.
The Override key-switch should otherwise stay off and be held by the supervisor — it removes the system's ability to warn of overload entirely.
07Entering Calibration / Function Mode
Press MENU to open the Main Menu screen.
Key in the PIN to enter Calibration mode, or just press OK for view-only mode.
Use ▲ / ▼ or the numeric keys to select the F-code, then press OK.
Enter new data with the keypad. OK saves, CANCEL aborts.
Select F-00 or press CANCEL to exit calibration mode.
Codes F-13 to F-20 (raw transducer gain/calibration) are flagged in the manual for Robway-trained personnel only — misuse can make the display function incorrectly.

09Maintenance Checklist
Maintenance must be performed by competent personnel only — careless tool/test-equipment use can reduce the system's level of safety. Tick off as you go (this list resets when you reload the page).
During maintenance
Post-maintenance
Record any defects found in the crane log book.
10In-Cabin Display Care
Confirm the display mounting is solid and vibration-free, and the display cable is firmly connected.
Check the display cable isn't pinched, caught, or exposed to damage along its run to the control unit outside the cabin.
Clean with a water-dampened cloth; a light detergent mix lifts stubborn grease/oil stains. Do not use solvents.
The display case is 316 stainless with powder coat, rated –20°C to +70°C; the acrylic front layer tolerates up to 90°C and should only be cleaned with household-grade detergent or 30% methyl alcohol.

When any electrical equipment is removed for maintenance, exposed conductors left behind must be mechanically and electrically secured to prevent an unsafe condition.
Periodically confirm the reel extends/retracts cable without hesitation; check wound cable for damage at the anchor pulley.
At major service intervals, open the reel cover, check it's clean and dry, and confirm slip rings show no signs of arcing with correctly seated collector brushes.
If the rewind spring breaks, it normally fails near the arbor — handle the captive band with care during replacement, and keep full control of rotation at all times when handling spring-loaded reels.
